Golf, as with any other sport, has rules. The Basic Rule of Golf is to sink a small ball into a small hole a few hundred yards away, using a club (which is a long stick with a large head at the end). Each hole has a par which is the pre-determined number of strokes needed in order to get the ball into the hole. The fewer the strokes the better, it you hit the ball less times than the mean you are under par, which is excellent. In golf having a negative score is better than a positive one!

How to Golf – Some Basic Rules
Beginners Golf Tips for Planning Your Hole
When Beginners Golf on a new golf course they are very often overly ambitious with their shots. Even though a hole is a par five, they want to be on the green in two shots. However, for Beginners Golf that is not a practical goal. A hole must be tackled one step at a time.
The course designers have placed hazards strategically throughout the course and it is unwise to try to power your way through them. Take time to look at the hole and devise a strategy that will allow your clubs to land your ball on the green.
